New improved stoves launched to tackle 'Silent Killer in the Kitchen'
29-Jul-2008
Shell Foundation strategic partner Envirofit has launched a new range of clean burning biomass cook stoves that reduce fuel consumption, cooking times and toxic emissions.

The stoves are designed to tackle Indoor Air Pollution - the fumes and smoke generated from cooking on open fires and traditional stoves that kills an estimated 1.5 million people each year.

Designed by an international team of globally recognised scientists and engineers, the cook stoves reduce toxic emissions by as much as 80%, while using 50% less fuel and reducing cooking cycle time by 40%. The cook stoves are currently available in the southern Indian states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and will be introduced across India - and eventually to other parts of the developing world. They come in five colours and cost between $12 (IndRupees 500) and $48 (IndRupees 2000). To read more click here.
